Guiding Your Path to Inner Healing and Growth

Welcome to Way Station Counseling, a place to rest, unburden, explore, create, heal and flourish. Thank you for being here.

I’m Catherine DeJesus, a plant lover, adventurer, defender of social justice, seasoned licensed mental health therapist and owner of Way Station Counseling, LLC.

My practice specializes in providing compassionate and effective psychotherapy to adults and adolescents age 14 and older. My therapeutic approach is built on a foundation of empathy, respect, and collaboration.

Education & Training

Before earning my Master of Social Work degree from Temple University in 2014, I spent over two decades immersed in the non-profit world, advocating for the rights and well-being of diverse individuals and families, including adolescents in foster care, families of incarcerated individuals, and the LGBTQ+ community. This foundation in advocacy laid the groundwork for my career in mental health and shaped my approach to helping others. Today, as a licensed mental health provider, I am proud to bring together my advocacy experience and clinical expertise to offer comprehensive and compassionate mental health services.

Over the years I have completed training in a wide array of evidence-based therapeutic techniques. I primarily utilize Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy, all of which are described under “Types of Treatment” on the Counseling Services page. These treatments are effective in treating a wide range of mood disorders.

Affirming Care

Way Station Counseling aims to create a safe, nonjudgemental place that allows you to fully express your authentic self. Whether shaped by constructs of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, neurodiversity or body ableness, each person’s unique experiences are valued and affirmed. Experiences of trauma in the form of systemic violence, oppression, and alienation have a profound and lasting effect in shaping individuals, families, and communities. I aim to empower you through compassionate support and evidence-based therapeutic techniques, helping you navigate the complexities of your journey towards healing by providing affirmative and sensitive care that respects your identity and supports your mental well-being.

“Way Station”

It wasn’t until I stumbled across a quaint little coffee shop in Richmond Hill, GA that I learned the meaning of Way Station. Above the entrance door read “A stopping point on your journey.”

The sign reminded me of my own journey with all its ups and downs, eventually leading me to Georgia and this cozy cafe. I remembered the many times I had needed to stop along the way to rest, reflect, refuel, rediscover, and restore before continuing on my journey.

So when it came time to name my practice, Way Station Counseling felt right. It aligned perfectly with my therapeutic goal: to provide a safe place where people can take pause on their journeys to rest, reflect, and restore their mental health before continuing on. We are all on unique journeys in life. Way Station Counseling is a transformative place to stop along the way.

The Space

Located on the Southside of Savannah, my office is a cozy and inviting space where you are free to express your emotions. Whether it's tears, laughter, anger, or silence, every emotion is welcome here. I encourage you to be your authentic self and trust that your emotions will be met with understanding and respect.

Your privacy and confidentiality are of utmost importance to me. My therapy room is soundproofed to ensure that our conversations remain private. You can rest assured that what you share within these walls stays here.

Types of Treatment

Each individual’s journey towards mental well-being is unique, which is why I offer several evidence-based treatment modalities to address diverse mental health concerns.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful therapeutic approach that helps individuals explore and understand the various aspects of their inner world. We all have different "parts" within us, each with its own thoughts, emotions, and desires. IFS encourages clients to develop a harmonious relationship with these internal parts, fostering self-awareness, self-compassion, and personal growth. This modality can be particularly effective in addressing issues related to identity, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-established approach that focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I work with clients to identify and challenge negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more adaptive beliefs. CBT is highly effective for treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based approach that encourages clients to accept their thoughts and emotions rather than trying to suppress or control them. By embracing acceptance and commitment to personal values, individuals can lead more fulfilling lives, even in the presence of difficult emotions or thoughts. ACT is particularly useful in helping clients manage stress, anxiety, and existential concerns.

  • This type of therapy explores the intricate connection between our nervous system, emotions, and overall health. It recognizes that our autonomic nervous system plays a pivotal role in regulating our physiological responses and emotional experiences.

  • A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
